YouTube YPP 2027 Deadline Checker: Terms and Shorts Rules
Check what YouTube’s 2027 Partner Program changes mean for your channel. Review the updated terms deadline, the monthly Shorts Creator Pool view threshold and the activity signals for existing partners.
Existing YouTube Partner Program members are not removed just because the new entry thresholds rise. From 1 February 2027, however, creators need to accept the updated monetisation modules that apply to them to keep earning from the associated features. A separate 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days threshold will apply to monthly Shorts Creator Pool earnings. These are different rules, so check them separately.

This is a comparison against YouTube’s published activity signals that begin on 1 February 2027. It is not an account-level YPP decision.
Key YouTube monetisation dates in 2026 and 2027
| Date | What changes | Who should pay attention |
|---|---|---|
| 10 August 2026 | YouTube announced the programme updates. | All creators planning to apply or already earning through YPP. |
| 31 January 2027 | Deadline to review and accept the updated monetisation terms applicable to the channel. | Existing partners and eligible MCN-managed channels should check the relevant modules in Studio. |
| 1 February 2027 | New full ads and Premium entry thresholds for new applicants begin; the Shorts Creator Pool monthly 10-million-view threshold and updated activity criteria take effect. | New applicants, existing Shorts earners and existing YPP channels reviewing their activity. |
The deadline is an action date, not a blanket removal date. YouTube says a creator who fails to accept an applicable updated module will stop earning from the associated monetisation features from 1 February, but the missed terms deadline does not itself remove that creator from YPP. Accepting later can restore access to the associated features.
What changes on 1 February 2027?
1. New applicants need higher thresholds for full ads and Premium revenue
For new applicants from 1 February 2027, YouTube says full Watch Page ads, Shorts ads and YouTube Premium revenue require 1,000 subscribers plus either 8,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Before that date, the established full-monetisation thresholds are 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified public watch hours or 10 million qualified public Shorts views. This is a change to the entry bar for new creators, not a retroactive requirement that existing partners must reach to keep their YPP status.
For a personal threshold comparison, use our YouTube Earnings Calculator and 2027 threshold simulator. This page focuses on the deadline, monthly Shorts earnings condition and activity rules that are easy to confuse with the entry thresholds.
2. The Shorts Creator Pool has a separate monthly 10-million-view test
Starting on 1 February 2027, creators will need at least 10 million qualified Shorts views in the relevant past-90-day window to earn from the general Shorts Creator Pool and YouTube Premium revenue for that earnings month. YouTube specifies a measurement window ending on the 15th day of the calendar month before the earnings month.
This is not the same test as getting accepted into YPP. If an existing partner falls below 10 million qualified Shorts views, YouTube says that alone does not remove them from YPP and does not affect other YPP earnings such as long-form video revenue. The rule affects eligibility for the general Shorts Creator Pool for the applicable month.
Shorts revenue sharing applies to views from the date you accept the Shorts Monetisation Module. Views earned before you accept it are not eligible. Channels below 10 million qualified views stay in YPP, and Shorts revenue sharing resumes automatically once they cross the threshold again.
Not every view counts. YouTube’s Shorts monetisation rules exclude certain ineligible views, including artificial or fake views and non-original reuploads or compilations that do not add original value. Use the qualified metric in Studio, not the public view count on a channel page.
3. Existing YPP channels have updated activity signals
From 1 February 2027, YouTube says a channel will be considered active in YPP if it meets at least one of these signals:
- 1,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 365 days; or
- 1 million qualified Shorts views in the past 90 days; or
- at least 2 long-form videos or 5 Shorts uploaded every 90 days.
YouTube also says channels that fall below the activity requirements will have an extended 90-day window to meet either 1,000 qualified watch hours in the past 365 days or 1 million qualified Shorts views in the past 90 days to restore active status. Do not interpret the simplified checker above as an account-level decision: YouTube controls how it applies programme rules to each channel.
4. Existing creators must review the updated terms that apply to their earning features
YouTube asks creators to review and accept the updated Watch Page Monetisation Module, Shorts Monetisation Module and, where applicable, Commerce Product Module in YouTube Studio by 31 January 2027. The Commerce Product update is particularly relevant to channels that enabled fan-funding features before 2023 and may still use the older Commerce Product Addendum.
Open YouTube Studio, check the dashboard notification or Earn tab, select Review for each applicable updated module, read the terms, tick the acceptance box and submit. The checker cannot see which modules your account needs or confirm that your acceptance has been recorded.
5. YouTube is also expanding Premium Lite and testing additional Shorts earning opportunities
YouTube says Premium Lite will expand to all countries where YouTube Premium is available. It describes a dedicated pool representing 60% of net Premium Lite subscription revenue, compared with a pool representing 30% of net standard Premium subscription revenue. These are the amounts assigned to the respective creator pools, not a promise that an individual creator receives 60% or 30% of a subscription or a fixed amount per view. Distribution depends on how much members watch eligible content and the applicable revenue-share model. YouTube’s announcement says each pool is distributed on member watch time and views, and that creators then receive 55% of that allocation for long-form videos and 45% for Shorts.
YouTube also announced targeted Shorts ads: when an advertiser targets an ad to a group of five or fewer channels, eligible creators may receive a direct 45% revenue share from those placements on top of standard Shorts Creator Pool earnings. Additional incentive programmes for activities such as Shopping and brand deals may be offered to eligible creators; follow notifications in YouTube Studio for details. These opportunities are subject to YouTube’s eligibility rules and should not be treated as guaranteed income.
6. Fan funding and Shopping entry thresholds remain unchanged
In eligible countries and regions, the lower entry route remains 500 subscribers, 3 valid public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. It can unlock eligible features such as channel memberships, Super Chat and Super Thanks, and Shopping. It does not by itself unlock full Watch Page ad revenue or Shorts Creator Pool revenue. Feature access varies by country, account and product eligibility.
How to accept the updated YouTube monetisation terms
- Sign in directly to YouTube Studio using the Google account that manages your channel.
- Look for the terms notification on the dashboard or open the Earn tab.
- Select Review for each updated module shown as applicable: Watch Page Monetisation, Shorts Monetisation and, when applicable, Commerce Product.
- Read the terms, select the acceptance checkbox and continue through the prompts.
- Select Submit and return to the relevant Studio area to confirm the terms show as accepted.
- If your channel is managed by an MCN, follow the applicable process for owned-and-operated or affiliate channels; responsibility can differ.
Four examples: how the changes affect different creators
| Channel situation | What the 2027 rule means | Useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| Already in YPP, 2 million Shorts views in the relevant 90-day window | The channel is below the new 10-million monthly Shorts Creator Pool threshold. That alone does not remove YPP status or stop other YPP revenue streams. | Check qualified views and the correct measurement window; review other revenue sources in Studio. |
| Already in YPP and currently earning from memberships, enabled before 2023 | The channel may need to move from the old Commerce Product Addendum to the Commerce Product Module. | Check the Earn tab and accept the applicable module before 31 January 2027. |
| New long-form applicant with 1,200 subscribers and 5,000 qualified watch hours | The figures meet the old 4,000-hour numeric route but fall short of the new 8,000-hour route starting 1 February 2027. | Use the threshold simulator and keep building qualified watch time; approval also depends on channel review. |
| Creator with 600 subscribers, 3 uploads and 3,200 qualified watch hours | The figures meet the numeric watch-hour route for the lower fan-funding tier, assuming the other programme and regional conditions are met. | Check the Earn tab for available features; this is not full ad-revenue eligibility. |
Common mistakes when checking YouTube monetisation
- Confusing YPP membership with Shorts payout eligibility. The 10-million qualified-views test is for monthly Shorts Creator Pool earnings; missing it alone does not remove the channel from YPP.
- Assuming all existing partners must reach 8,000 watch hours. The higher 8,000-hour or 20-million-Shorts threshold applies to new applicants from 1 February 2027.
- Treating the 31 January deadline as a channel-removal date. The official explanation says the associated monetisation features stop earning until the applicable terms are accepted; YPP status is not removed for that reason.
- Mixing Shorts views into watch hours. Shorts Feed watch time does not count towards the long-form public watch-hours route.
- Using total public views instead of qualified views. Ineligible, artificial or non-original Shorts views may not count.
- Assuming a calculator guarantees approval. YouTube still checks policy compliance, country availability and other channel/account requirements.
YouTube monetisation changes 2027: FAQs
When do the YouTube Partner Program changes start?
The announced changes take effect on 1 February 2027. The date to review and accept the applicable updated monetisation terms is 31 January 2027.
Will existing YouTube partners be kicked out if they do not meet 8,000 watch hours?
No. YouTube says the increased entry thresholds are for new applicants and will not change existing members’ YPP status. Separate rules, including accepting applicable terms and the monthly Shorts Creator Pool threshold, can affect particular earning features.
What happens if I do not accept the updated terms by 31 January 2027?
YouTube says you stop earning from the monetisation features associated with the updated modules you have not accepted from 1 February 2027. You can regain access to those features by accepting the terms later. The missed deadline alone does not remove your YPP status.
Do I need 10 million Shorts views to stay in YPP?
No. Starting on 1 February 2027, the 10-million qualified Shorts views requirement applies to earning each month from the general Shorts Creator Pool and YouTube Premium revenue for Shorts. Missing it alone does not remove YPP status or affect other YPP earnings, such as long-form video revenue.
What is the new YouTube monetisation threshold for new applicants in 2027?
From 1 February 2027, new applicants need 1,000 subscribers and either 8,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days for full ads and Premium revenue sharing. Meeting the numbers does not guarantee acceptance.
Are the 500-subscriber fan-funding thresholds changing?
YouTube says they remain unchanged: 500 subscribers, 3 valid public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days, in eligible regions. These thresholds do not by themselves unlock full ad revenue.
How do I accept the new YouTube terms?
Sign in to YouTube Studio, check the dashboard or Earn tab for terms notifications, review each applicable module and submit the acceptance. The checker cannot inspect your account or accept terms for you.
Is this an official YouTube calculator?
No. Ultimate Info Guide is independent. This tool compares figures you enter with publicly announced thresholds and helps organise checks. It cannot access your Studio account, inspect your channel or guarantee eligibility.
Official sources and how we checked the rules
This page was checked on 11 October 2026 against YouTube’s official published guidance. Re-check the source pages before relying on a future deadline or rule, because platform terms can change.
Some general YouTube eligibility pages, such as the Partner Program overview and the expanded programme page, still show the earlier thresholds of 4,000 qualified watch hours or 10 million Shorts views.
