Quick answer: add your HEIC files below, leave the format on JPG, press Convert photos, then download the results. It works on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac in a current browser, with no account and no software to install.
HEIC to JPG Converter
Convert HEIC and HEIF photos · JPG, PNG or WebP · batch and resize · no account required
Privacy note: This page converts the selected image files in your browser. The converter code is downloaded from a public JavaScript CDN when you add your first photo, but the image files themselves are not sent to our server. The conversion library does not preserve the original photo’s EXIF metadata, so camera details and GPS coordinates are not carried into the new file.
Check for yourself that your photos are not uploaded
Most online converters send your files to a server and delete them later. You have to trust that promise. This page works differently, and you can test it in about a minute.
- Watch the network. On a computer, press F12, open the Network tab, then convert a photo. You will see the converter script load. You will not see a request that carries your image.
- Try airplane mode. Add a photo and wait until the line under the buttons says the engine is ready. Turn on airplane mode or disconnect Wi-Fi, then press Convert photos. The conversion should still finish.
- Read the result. The preview and download link point to a file created inside your browser tab, not to a web address on our site.
| Type of converter | Where your photo goes | Typical trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Browser-based, like this page | Stays on your device | Limited by your device memory, so batches are capped |
| Upload-based website | Sent to a company server, then returned | Slower on big batches and often has daily or file-count limits |
| Desktop app | Stays on your device | You have to install it, and some apps charge for batch features |
The comparison describes common patterns. Individual tools differ, so check the privacy policy of any converter you use for sensitive photos.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Select your photos. Choose HEIC or HEIF files from your iPhone, computer or other device. You can select several photos at once.
- Pick format, quality and size. Keep JPG at 92% for a balance of quality and file size, or choose PNG or WebP and a smaller size.
- Convert the files. Select Convert photos and leave the page open while your browser processes each photo.
- Download your files. Download each photo separately or use Download all as ZIP for a batch.
The converter processes files one at a time to reduce memory pressure on phones and laptops. Large images take longer, especially on older devices. If one image fails, try converting it on its own.
HEIC vs JPG: what actually differs
HEIC is the file extension most iPhones use for photos. It is built on the HEIF container and uses HEVC compression, which usually keeps a photo at a smaller size than JPEG. The catch is support. Many websites, older Windows apps, printers and upload forms still expect JPG.
| Feature | HEIC / HEIF | JPG / JPEG |
|---|---|---|
| File size | Often around half the size of a JPG at similar visual quality | Larger for the same picture |
| Compatibility | Native on Apple devices, patchy on Windows, older apps and many web forms | Opens almost everywhere |
| Compression | Lossy, HEVC based | Lossy, older method |
| Color depth | Can store more than 8 bits per color channel | 8 bits per color channel |
| Transparency | Supported by the format | Not supported |
| Best for | Saving phone storage and keeping originals | Uploading, emailing and sharing |
HEIC and HEIF: HEIF is the wider image container family. HEIC commonly refers to HEIF files that use HEVC (H.265) compression. This converter accepts common .heic and .heif photos, but unusual, damaged or multi-image files may not convert.
Which output format should you pick?
- JPG: the safe choice for uploads, email, forms and printing. Start at 90 to 95% quality for everyday photos.
- PNG: lossless, so there is no extra compression loss, but files are often several times larger than a JPG.
- WebP: usually smaller than JPG at similar quality and fine for websites. Some older apps and print services do not accept it. If your browser cannot create WebP, you get a PNG and the file card tells you.
Quality below 85% creates smaller files and can show compression artifacts. Quality from 96 to 100% uses less compression and can produce large files. None of these percentages guarantees a file size. The JPG may be larger than the original HEIC because the two formats compress differently.
What happens to location and camera data
This converter does not copy EXIF metadata into the new file. Capture time, camera model and GPS coordinates are left behind. If you are posting a photo from home, listing something for sale or sending an image to a stranger, that is a useful default.
It is a problem if you need the original date or location kept, for example for an insurance claim or a photo archive. In that case keep your original HEIC files and use a tool that states it preserves metadata, then check the result. On Windows, right-click the file, choose Properties and open the Details tab. On a Mac, open the image in Preview and use Tools, then Show Inspector.
Colors can also shift slightly on photos shot in a wide color range, because JPG output is generally sRGB. Compare the result with your original if exact color matters.
How to open HEIC files on Windows 10 and 11
Windows does not include full HEIC support by default, so a HEIC file may show a blank thumbnail or a message that it cannot be opened. You have three options.
- Convert the files here. This is the fastest fix if you only need JPGs for an upload or to share the photo.
- Install HEIF Image Extensions. Open the Microsoft Store, search for HEIF Image Extensions and install it. After that, Photos, Paint and File Explorer thumbnails can usually display HEIC images. Windows may also point you to HEVC Video Extensions. Depending on your Windows version and the Store listing, that one can be a paid item.
- Use Paint to save a JPG. With the extension installed, open the HEIC file in Paint, then choose File, Save as, JPEG picture.
Windows 7 and Windows 8 have no Microsoft support for HEIC, so converting the files is the practical route on those systems. If the extension is installed and files still will not open, run Windows Update and restart the PC.
How to convert HEIC to JPG on a Mac
macOS opens HEIC natively. To export a JPG with built-in tools, open the photo in Preview, choose File, then Export, set the format to JPEG and pick a quality. Recent macOS versions also add a Convert Image action when you right-click selected files in Finder, under Quick Actions. For a batch without opening each file, drop them into the converter above.
How to make future iPhone photos save as JPG
If you often need JPGs, you can change the camera format so new photos use a more compatible format:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Open Camera, then tap Formats.
- Select Most Compatible, if that option is available on your device.
This setting affects new photos and videos captured after you change it. It does not convert HEIC photos already in your library. Apple’s guidance explains that Most Compatible uses JPEG for photos and H.264 for video on supported devices. Read Apple’s HEIF and HEVC support guide for current device-specific instructions.
If you move photos to a Mac or Windows PC with a cable, the Photos setting under Settings, Photos, Transfer to Mac or PC has an Automatic option that can hand over a compatible format instead of the original. Choose Keep Originals if you want the HEIC files untouched.
Storage trade-off: Most Compatible photos take more space on your phone, so many people leave HEIC on and convert only the photos they need to upload.
Fix common HEIC conversion problems
The file will not convert
Check that the file is a real HEIC or HEIF image and is not damaged. Burst captures, unusual HEIF variants and some very new device features may not be handled by every browser converter. Try one file at a time and keep the tab open while it runs.
The page says the conversion library could not load
The decoder is downloaded from a public CDN. Check your connection, try again, or turn off a content blocker that stops the script from loading. Your image is not uploaded when the library loads.
My iPhone will not let me pick the photo, or the page says to choose a .heic file
When you choose from the photo library, iOS can hand a page a JPG copy instead of the original HEIC. If that happens, the photo is already in a compatible format. To select the original file, save it to the Files app first and pick it from Files.
A website or app rejects my HEIC upload
Many upload forms accept only JPG or PNG. Convert the photo here, then upload the new file. If the form also has a size limit, use the resize option and a quality near 85 to 90%.
The output looks different or is larger than the HEIC
JPEG uses a different compression method and does not support transparency. Output size depends on image detail and your quality setting. Lower the quality a little if size matters, then inspect the result before using it.
The JPG does not show the original date, location or camera
This tool does not preserve EXIF metadata. Use a metadata-preserving converter if those details must stay attached to the photo.
The batch is slow or the browser runs out of memory
Large photos need a lot of working memory when decoded. Convert fewer files per run, close other heavy tabs, or use a smaller batch on a phone. This page caps a batch at 20 files and each input at 25 MB to reduce memory problems.
HEIC to JPG converter: FAQs
Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?
Yes. There is no account, watermark or daily limit. You can add up to 20 files at a time, 25 MB each.
Does this converter upload my photos?
No. Conversion runs in your browser and your image files are not sent to our server. The page downloads the decoder script from a public CDN, which is separate from your photos.
Can I convert multiple HEIC photos at once?
Yes. Add up to 20 photos per batch, convert them in one run, then download each file or one ZIP.
Does it keep EXIF, date and GPS data?
No. The decoder used here does not copy EXIF metadata, so camera details, capture time and GPS location are not included in the output. That makes the files safer to share, but use a metadata-preserving tool if you need the date or location kept.
Can I convert HEIC to PNG or WebP instead of JPG?
Yes. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP before you convert. PNG is lossless but often much larger, and a browser that cannot create WebP will give you a PNG instead.
Can I resize photos while converting?
Yes. Pick a longest-side size such as 2000 px or 1080 px. Photos already smaller than that size are not enlarged.
Why is my JPG larger than the HEIC?
HEIC compresses photos more efficiently than JPEG, so the same picture often takes more space as a JPG. Lower the quality slider or pick a smaller resize option if you hit an upload limit.
Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?
JPG is a lossy format, so some detail is discarded. At 90 to 95 percent quality the difference is hard to see in normal use, but keep your original HEIC files as masters.
How do I open HEIC files on Windows 11?
Install HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store, then open the file in Photos or Paint. Windows may also ask for HEVC Video Extensions. If you would rather not install anything, convert the photos here.
How do I stop my iPhone from saving photos as HEIC?
Open Settings, tap Camera, tap Formats and choose Most Compatible. This affects new photos only. Photos already in your library stay as HEIC.
What is the difference between HEIC and HEIF?
HEIF is the image container standard. HEIC is the common file extension for HEIF images compressed with HEVC, which is what iPhones use.
Can I convert Live Photos?
The still image inside a Live Photo can be converted. The short video clip is a separate file and is not converted by this tool.
Technical note: This browser converter uses the open-source heic-to library for HEIC and HEIF decoding and JSZip for ZIP files. Browser memory, file variants and device capability affect results. It is built for everyday photo conversion, not archival work or workflows that need EXIF preserved.
