Pacific Northwest · Time Change Guide

Vancouver and Seattle are on the same time until Seattle’s clocks fall back at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026. After that transition, Vancouver is one hour ahead until Seattle returns to daylight time on March 14, 2027.

Important: The date alone is not enough to describe the two changeover Sundays. Before Seattle’s fall-back transition on November 1, the cities still show the same time; after the transition, Vancouver is one hour ahead. The reverse happens after Seattle’s spring-forward transition on March 14, 2027.

Quick answer

Most of British Columbia stays at UTC−07:00 year-round. Seattle still follows the U.S. daylight-saving schedule: it changes from UTC−07:00 to UTC−08:00 at 2 a.m. on November 1, 2026. After that moment, 9:00 a.m. in Seattle is 10:00 a.m. in Vancouver. The cities match again after Seattle advances its clocks on March 14, 2027.

Why Vancouver and Seattle no longer match in winter

British Columbia adopted permanent year-round Pacific Time at UTC−07:00 after its final spring clock change on March 8, 2026. The province has also announced the abbreviation PCT for its year-round time standard.

Washington continues to follow the U.S. daylight-saving calendar. Under the current U.S. rules, Seattle returns to UTC−08:00 in November and moves to UTC−07:00 in March. Washington has enacted a conditional permanent-daylight-saving law, but the U.S. Department of Transportation explains that states cannot choose permanent daylight saving time under current federal law.

That mismatch creates the one-hour winter difference. It is not because Vancouver moved its clocks back on November 1; Vancouver stays at UTC−07:00 while Seattle moves to UTC−08:00.

For cross-border appointments, shopping trips, airport transfers, and meetings, confirm the local time for the city on each side. After Seattle’s November clock change, a 10 a.m. Vancouver appointment corresponds to 9 a.m. in Seattle. Phone clocks may update automatically when location services and current time-zone data are available, but do not rely on a device display alone for an important booking.
