Meta Muse AI: Features, Tasks, Setup and Limitations

Meta Muse AI is a personal agent that does tasks for you instead of only chatting. This guide covers what it can do, 7 prompts to test it, what each plan costs, what Meta says about privacy, and where it stops working.

Muse launched on September 8, 2026 and changes fast. Prices, limits and features below were checked against Meta’s own pages on October 11, 2026. Items Meta has announced but not shipped are labeled as announced.

Quick answer

Meta Muse AI is Meta’s personal AI agent, launched September 8, 2026 in the U.S. on iOS, Android, the web at muse.ai and WhatsApp. Meta says Muse is available in the U.S. and Canada, although access to particular features and subscriptions varies by region and account. It runs on a dedicated cloud virtual machine with its own browser, can email, book travel and shop with your approval, and keeps working after you close the app. It is free with a refreshing usage limit. Paid plans are Power at $20 a month (500 million Muse tokens a week) and Maximum at $100 a month (3 billion a week). Amazon has blocked Muse from shopping on its store.

What is Meta Muse AI?

Meta Muse AI is a personal agent from Meta. Meta says it does not just answer questions: it takes tasks and projects off your plate and turns long-term goals into plans. It can open a browser, fill out forms and negotiate for you, and for long tasks it keeps working after you close the app and comes back when something changes or it needs approval.

It is powered by Muse Spark, Meta’s model for agentic work. You talk to it like you would message a person, in the Muse app or directly in WhatsApp. Meta describes Muse as built for everyday users with no technical setup.

How Meta Muse AI works: Secure VM, Sentinel and approvals

Muse Secure VM

Each person’s Muse runs on its own dedicated cloud computer with its own browser. Your connected-service data and credentials are stored there, isolated from other users’ agents.

Sentinel

A separate Sentinel agent runs on the same machine, kept apart from Muse at the system level. Per Meta, nothing Muse does reaches the internet unless Sentinel approves it, and Sentinel asks you for permission when needed.

Approvals and the audit trail

Muse checks with you before sensitive actions such as sending an email or making a purchase, and it shows a trail of what it has done and plans to do. You choose which apps connect and how much access each gets, for example whether Muse only reads your mail or can also send.

Payments

Muse can check out with Link, built by Stripe. Meta says Link’s wallet for agents creates a one-time-use card so your real card details stay hidden. Shop Pay and 1Password support are listed as coming soon.

These protections describe Meta’s stated security design. Independent testing has not yet confirmed how well they hold up in practice.

How to get started with Meta Muse AI

  1. Go to muse.ai or install the Muse app on iOS or Android. You can also message Muse in WhatsApp.
  2. Sign in with your Meta account. Meta says Muse is available in the United States and Canada, and some features and subscriptions vary by region and account, so go by what your app shows.
  3. Connect only the apps a task needs, and set each to the lowest permission that works (read first, send later).
  4. Start with a task that stops for approval, like the cart prompt below, before you hand over anything involving money.
  5. Check the usage meter in the app. Weekly limits apply on every plan.

7 Meta Muse AI tasks to try, with prompts

These prompts test the difference between a chatbot and an agent. Each one lists what to check so you stay in control. These are suggested prompts, not independently benchmarked tests. Results vary by connected apps, website restrictions and account availability.

1. Build a multi-day trip plan

Low riskBrowser only
Research a 4-day trip to Montreal for 2 adults with lodging under $1,200. Compare 3 Old Montreal hotels and 3 rentals, list each cancellation deadline, and give me a day-by-day table.

Check: every cancellation date against the booking site before you book anything.

2. Test a flight fare watch

Low riskUses more tokens
Check non-stop JFK to London Heathrow fares for the first week of November each morning. Message me only if a round trip drops below $550.

Check: treat recurring checks as something to test, not a guaranteed scheduled-alert feature. Muse can keep working after you close the app, but support for a fixed schedule or WhatsApp alerts is not documented, and long-running tasks use more of your weekly tokens.

3. Price-compare and fill a cart, then stop

Money involved
Find the lowest total price for these three skincare items at Target and Walmart, add them to the cheaper cart, and stop before payment. Show me the total with shipping.

Check: Muse should pause for your approval before paying. Do not use Amazon, which currently blocks Muse.

4. Triage unread email without sending

Needs email access
Read unread email from the last 48 hours, list what needs a reply today, and draft replies. Do not send anything.

Check: connect email with read-only access first. Meta lets you choose whether Muse can send for you.

5. Turn a goal into a weekly plan

Low risk
I want to run a 10K in 12 weeks. Build a weekly plan around my calendar, and ask before you add anything.

Check: Muse is built to turn long-term goals into plans, but a plan is a draft, so review it yourself.

6. Compare public pricing and terms pages

Low risk
Open the public pricing and terms pages of three cloud storage providers and build a table of storage overage fees, enterprise login fees and data retention limits. Link each source.

Check: open the linked pages yourself, because agents can misread pricing tables.

7. Run a purchase end to end, with approval

Highest risk
Buy this item from the merchant I pasted, standard shipping only. Stop and show me the final total before paying, and pay only after I approve.

Check: Meta lists Link by Stripe as a checkout option, but support depends on the merchant and payment flow. Confirm the approval step appears before you rely on it, and review the audit trail afterward.

Test order: run tasks 1, 2 and 6 first because nothing is spent or sent. Move to email and carts only after you see how Muse asks for approval.

Meta Muse AI pricing: Free, Power and Maximum

Meta says Muse is free with a usage limit that refreshes. If you hit the limit you can wait or upgrade. The weekly allowance rises with each plan, and Meta’s help page lists the paid allowances in Muse tokens.

PlanPriceWeekly usage
Free$0A usage limit that refreshes. Meta does not publish the number.
Power$20 per month500 million Muse tokens per week
Maximum$100 per month3 billion Muse tokens per week

The paid plans buy more usage, not different features, according to the plan descriptions. Maximum gives 6 times the weekly tokens of Power for 5 times the price. Muse tokens are Meta’s own usage unit, and Meta has not published how many a typical task uses, so they are not comparable to API tokens. Use the estimator below with the number from your own in-app usage meter.

Read this from your Muse usage meter. Example: 300 means 300 million.

Enter your weekly usage to compare plans.

Paid plan capacity at this usage–
Tokens per month at this pace–
Power headroom–
Maximum headroom–
Power effective cost per 100M at full allowance–
Maximum effective cost per 100M at full allowance–

Estimate only. The cost figures are the effective plan price per 100M tokens if you use the whole weekly allowance, not a Meta token price. A month is treated as 52 divided by 12 weeks. Meta can change plans and limits.

If you are weighing Muse against building your own automations, compare costs with our AI Agent Cost Calculator and the MCP vs Zapier cost guide. For API pricing, the AI Token Calculator uses a different unit from Muse tokens.

Meta Muse AI privacy: what to change and what stays

Giving any agent access to email, shopping and files is a trust decision. Here is what Meta states and what independent reviewers add.

  • Model training: Meta says Muse interaction data and agent activity can be used to improve its models. You can opt out in Muse settings. Check the current setting and its scope in your account, because privacy controls may change.
  • Ads. Meta says Muse does not share your conversations or VM data with its ad systems. Independent analysis adds that activity Muse performs on outside websites, such as a retailer’s own tracking, can still influence the ads you see.
  • Credentials. Meta says Muse cannot see your passwords or payment methods, and cannot see passwords you type into the browser yourself.
  • Meta staff access. Reviews of Meta’s documentation say staff can still reach a current Secure VM to operate, secure or support the service. Meta plans a Muse Confidential VM later in 2026, encrypted with a key only you hold. It is not available yet.
  • Memory. You can tell Muse to forget things. Reviewers note that deleting a chat does not necessarily remove what Muse already remembered, so use Forget or a reset.

One reported case: in a September 19 opinion column for Inc., tech columnist Jason Aten wrote that Muse on his Mac synced content from his Messages database even though he recalls declining access to messages. He says Muse first told him it only saw notification banners, and that Full Disk Access was not enabled in its settings pane. He reported that Meta did not immediately answer his questions, and that a Meta executive replied on Threads in a way he read as implying the needed settings were allowed. This is one reporter’s documented experience, not proof that every user’s messages are collected, and it differs from Meta’s stated permission model. Still, check permissions before you enable anything on a computer that holds private data.

Meta Muse AI limitations and the Amazon block

Amazon blocks Muse from shopping. Starting around September 20, 2026, Muse users who send it to Amazon see a popup saying an unauthorized AI agent is violating Amazon’s Conditions of Use.

Amazon’s stated reasons, reported by Forbes and Mixed, are that Meta did not tell Amazon Muse would use its store, that Muse does not identify itself as an AI while browsing, and that it can reach account pages and order history. Amazon says it asked Meta to remove its store from Muse. These are Amazon’s allegations, not findings by a court or regulator. Meta disputes the credential concern and says Muse has no visibility into passwords or payment methods.

Other limits to plan around:

  • Availability: Meta says the United States and Canada, and features and subscriptions vary by region and account.
  • Usage caps: weekly limits on every plan, with the free cap unpublished.
  • Sites can refuse agents. Browser-driven tasks break when a site changes or blocks automation.
  • Approvals slow things down. Emails and purchases pause for your OK by design.
  • Mistakes happen. Reporting at launch noted that AI agents have deleted user data by accident, so keep backups of anything you let an agent touch.
